Implant Dentistry Rates

27 March 2017
Latest update

In the interests of fairness to the whole membership, we have introduced a new subscription rate for those carrying out any aspect of implant dentistry.

Our experience

  • The total number of cases and the financial settlement value of cases involving implants are continuing to increase – and the rate at which they are increasing is accelerating.
  • Implant dentistry is expensive to put right once it has gone wrong, for whatever reason.
  • Up to now, Dental Protection hasn’t charged members who carry out implants an additional subscription for implant dentistry – unlike other providers of professional protection, who have done so for a number of years.

Who is affected?

Practice principal dentists undertaking the placement and restoration of implants.

You will need to pay an enhanced subscription in order to be able to request assistance for providing any aspect of implant dental treatment (see exclusions below).

Associate dentists that undertake the placement and restoration of implants.

You will need to pay an enhanced subscription in order to be able to request assistance for providing any aspect of implant dental treatment (see exclusions below).

Dentists working reduced hours (part-time) whose work includes any placement and/or restoration of implants.

You will need to pay an enhanced subscription in order to be able to request assistance for providing any aspect of implant dental treatment (see exclusions below).

Exclusions

Dentists on a relevant specialist list* who also hold an employer-indemnified position for part of the week.

No enhanced subscriptions for implant dentistry carried out in private practice. (*Oral surgery, restorative dentistry, fixed and removable prosthodontics, periodontics)

Oral and maxillofacial surgeons

No enhanced subscription for implant dentistry for those already paying Group 1 or 2 oral and maxillofacial rates.

Yes. If a member wishes to request assistance for any dentolegal issue arising from the placement or restoration of implants, they need to ensure they are paying the appropriate enhanced subscription for implant dentistry, unless they already have confirmation from Membership Services that they are exempted from the enhanced subscription within their existing membership arrangements. Dental members are asked to contact Membership Services in advance of booking on to a "hands on” implant course to ensure that they are in the correct membership category before joining the course.
