  • Jane Merivale
    Senior Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS LLM 

    Jane has worked full-time as a Dento-Legal Adviser since 2008. Jane worked in general dental practice for twenty-six years and owned her own practice for twenty years. She has been involved with Dental Protection since 1997 when she first started working as a Local Adviser. In 2004 Jane became an Associate Dentolegal Adviser, working in the office on a part-time basis whilst still in practice and studying for her law degree. She began working full-time as a Dentolegal Adviser in 2008.

    Jane is following developments with the GDC's Revalidation programme on behalf of Dental Protection. She is an accredited member of the MPS Education Faculty and regularly delivers ‘Mastering Your Risk’ workshop and has been responsible for developing a series of educational discs (Communicating in Dentistry and Record Keeping) in conjunction with ‘Smile On’. She is also Dental Protection's Lead for members in Singapore and Malaysia.

  • David Monaghan
    Associate Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS MPhil

    David qualified from the University of Manchester in 1975 and held a number of hospital posts in OMFS before entering general practice. After three years as an associate and a further three years as a practice owner in Stockport David relocated to the Derbyshire Peak District and established a new practice. Over the next 25 years he developed the practice, acquiring a second practice in the same town and gradually reducing his clinical commitment as he committed more time to practice based research and to being a Dental Practice Adviser, Local Dental Adviser and Postgraduate Dental Adviser.

    Since 2010 David has been involved with facilitating Dental Protections programme of Risk Management workshops, Masterclasses and Clinical Communication Programmes.

  • Shreeti Patel
    Associate Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS MSc DGDP(UK)

    Shreeti qualified from Birmingham Dental School in 1990. After completing vocational training, Shreeti worked in general practice in Oxfordshire and Berkshire while completing her MSc in Endodontics from Guy Dental Hospital in 1999.

    Since then Shreeti has limited her practice to Endodontics and provides treatment on referral in practices in Berkshire and Hertfordshire. Shreeti works as a Senior Dental Officer in Endodontics in Community Dental Services in Hillingdon.

    A Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives, Jason joined the Claims Team in 2007 having gained 15 years of personal injury claims experience working for insurers and in private practice.

  • Sudhir Radia
    Associate Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS (Bom), Stat Exam in 1973 (GDC), MFGDP(UK), DPDS (Brist), FFGDP(UK), MGDSRCS(Eng.),PgCert (Med Law)

    Sudhir was appointed as a Local Dental Adviser in 2000 and Associate Dentolegal Adviser for Dental Protection in 2008.

    He is an examiner for the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE). He is a principal of a mixed dental practice in Harrow since 1977. He a member of the Harrow LDC. 

    He was a Director and Diploma Tutor of the NW Division of the FGDP (UK), A Tutor at the Charing Cross Postgraduate Centre (London Deanery). He is a fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy.

  • Raj Rattan MBE
    Dental Director
    BDS MFGDP FFGDP Dip.MDE FICD

    Raj graduated from University College Hospital, London. His clinical experience in general practice spans 30 years mostly as a multiple practice owner. During this time, he combined his general practice career with his roles at the London Deanery first as a VT course organiser and later as a Strategic Associate Raj has considerable experience of the NHS and the private sector. A member of the original Options for Change task group in 2001, Raj was then appointed as a Policy Adviser to the Department of Health where he served his three-year term. He has been a professional adviser to the NHS, the private and corporate sector for many years. Raj has authored/co-authored several text books, published numerous articles and contributed to a number of e-learning initiatives. He has examined nationally and internationally for the FGDP and is a visiting lecturer to a number of postgraduate teaching programmes. He has lectured extensively throughout the UK and in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Ireland, South Africa, Hong Kong and the Caribbean.

    Raj first worked as a Dentolegal Adviser for Dental Protection in 1993 before becoming a Senior Dentolegal Consultant in 2011. In 2016 he was appointed as the Dental Director.

  • Ravi Rattan
    Dentolegal Adviser
    LDSRCS PgDip DPM

    Ravi qualified in 1987 from University College Hospital, London. He subsequently combined general practice with both part-time clinical and teaching appointments in two London hospitals. In 1997 he completed a postgraduate diploma in dental practice management. He has additional experience at both BDA and LDC level, recently completing his term as Chair of his LDC.

    Ravi is the principal of a multi-practice which provided vocational training for 12 years and is the dental adviser to a number of Primary Care Trusts. He has been the professional adviser and clinical lead in PDS pilots, Options for Change field sites and the implementation of the nGDS contract at PCT level. He has considerable experience of all aspects of the NHS.

    Ravi joined our London team in 1998, four years after his brother, Raj. He is a part-time Dentolegal Adviser in our London office.

  • Simrit Ryatt
    Associate Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS MJDF LLM

    Simrit qualified from Manchester in 2004. Simrit taught fourth and fifth year students at the Manchester University Dental Hospital (Clinical Fellows Teaching Assistant) and also worked in general practice before joining the Dental Protection team. Simrit began her career with Dental Protection in 2014 and obtained a merit in her medical law masters in July 2017.

  • Susie Sanderson
    Dentolegal Adviser
    OBE BDS FDSRCS(Eng) FFGDP(UK) LLM

    Susie has been a GDP and partner in a mixed family general practice for most of her career. Involved in the BDA at local and national level for a number of years, she was the elected Chair of the Executive Board from 2006 to 2012.

    Internationally, Susie is Treasurer of the Council of European Dentists and represents the UK at the FDI. She is the Chair of the CED’s Amalgam and Other Restorative Materials Working Group and the Antibiotics in Dentistry Task Force.  She continues to work to influence European policy makers in their implementation of the globally agreed 2013 Minamata Convention on mercury and mitigate its unintended consequences for dental practice.

    Susie was awarded an OBE for services to dentistry in 2012 and remains a member of the BDA’s Principal Executive Committee.

    Susie joined Dental Protection as an Associate Dentolegal Adviser in 2012, becoming a Dentolegal Adviser in 2014

  • Helen Sayer
    Associate Dentolegal Adviser 
    BDS

    Helen qualified from Liverpool in 1988 and has spent her career within the salaried services. She has a Masters in Public Health and has worked in undergraduate and postgraduate education. Helen is currently working as a joint Clinical Director for salaried Dental Services whilst maintaining a clinical commitment in a salaried PDS practice.

    Helen joined Dental Protection as an Associate Dentolegal Adviser in September 2014 and is currently studying for a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Law and Ethics. She is particularly aware of the issues affecting Dental Protection’s salaried service members including the treatment of vulnerable adults and children and the challenges of working in large NHS organisations.

  • Phil Shaw
    Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS LDS DGDP MGDS DPDS LLM

    Phil qualified from King’s College Hospital Dental School, London, in 1987. After two years as an associate in Essex, he bought his own NHS dental practice in Manchester and over the years combined a career in general practice with part-time clinical teaching and research at Manchester Dental School. During this time he also became involved in Foundation Training, eventually becoming the Adviser for the North Manchester Scheme. He sold his NHS practice in 2002 and worked in part-time private practice in several practices in Yorkshire. Phil has obtained a Master’s Degree in Medical Law from the University of Northumbria.

    Phil was appointed as an Associate Dentolegal Adviser for Dental Protection in 2008 and became a full-time Adviser in July 2011.

  • Yvonne Shaw
    Dentolegal Adviser
    BChD DPDS LLM 

    Yvonne qualified from Leeds in 1990 and worked in general dental practice for 18 years. She obtained the LLM in Legal Aspects of Medical Practice in 2000 and completed the DPDS in 2004. Whilst working in clinical practice, Yvonne developed an interest in orthodontics and alongside general practice, worked as a clinical assistant in both hospital and orthodontic practice. She was a member of Leeds LDC for eight years.

    Yvonne started working for Dental Protection in 2008 as an Associate Dentolegal Adviser and since 2011 has worked as a full-time Dentolegal Adviser.

  • Terry Simpson
    Dentolegal Adviser
    BDS LDSRCS DGDP(UK) MSc LLM

    Terry has been a general dental practitioner since 1981 and a practice owner from 1993 until the present near his home City of Edinburgh. He worked for 16 years as Clinical Effectiveness Adviser for NHS Lothian.

    Since 2004, Terry has led the Cochrane systematic review, Treatment of Periodontal Disease for Glycaemic Control in People with Diabetes, related to his Master’s degree in evidence-based healthcare from Oxford University.

    Dominic joined the Claims and Legal Team as a Claims Manager/Solicitor in 2008, having specialised in dental negligence claims since 2000.

  • Martin Valt
    Dentolegal Adviser
    BChD FDS MSc MSurgDent DipConSed MFGDP LLB

    Martin qualified in Leeds in 1986. He initially worked in NHS general practice, but gradually moved into oral surgery, having obtained his Master’s degree in Manchester in 1992. He has previously held posts at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield and at Leeds Dental Institute and has been employed as a specialist in oral surgery in Cheshire since 1996. Martin has held a law degree from Leeds Metropolitan University since 1995.

    Martin was appointed as a Local Dental Adviser in 2000, as an Associate Dentolegal Adviser in 2010 and a part-time Dentolegal Adviser in 2013.
