PITFALLS OF PRACTICE – A CRITICAL APPRAISAL OF THE RISKS OF PROVIDING NON-SPECIALIST ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT
The practice of dentistry carries with it inherent risks, and while these risks can be applied broadly across all dental practice, each unique discipline of dentistry has an individual risk profile to be considered. The unique risks of providing orthodontic treatment as a GDP will be explored in this presentation to enable practitioners to understand their own risks, and work to mitigate them, to ensure a happy and stress free practice.
Anonymised cases managed by Dental Protection will be used to tease out the key points, and highlight some critical crossroads in our relationships with patient, as the path we travel can directly influence the end point.

LIGHTBULB MOMENTS
There can be no doubt that daily life involves a certain amount of trial and error, and the daily practice of dentistry is no exception. This presentation seeks to identify the risks of practice and distil them out in a meaningful way to enable practitioners to better manage their own risk. Example of recent graduate cases will be presented throughout, to enable us to have a collective 'light bulb moment' and perhaps learn from the mistakes of others along the way.
